If you head out of Cincinnati on Interstate 71 North, you can arrive in the Cleveland suburb of Garfield Heights in about four hours. The city of just under 30,000 is home to a 49-year-old man recently accused of a series of sex crimes, according to news reports.
He is accused of sexually assaulting seven girls, all between the ages of 10 and 15, law enforcement officials said. He faces a long list of serious accusations, including four counts of rape.
He also faces nine counts of gross sexual imposition, a pair of counts of sexual imposition and a single count of corrupting another with drugs.
Investigation of the suspect began back in January by police officers in nearby Stow. Law enforcement officials began their probe after the youngest of the girls told her mother that she had been sexually assaulted by the man, who apparently lived in Stow at the time.
Two months later, another mother told officials that her daughters had also been sexually abused by the suspect on more than one occasion.
According to news reports, at least two of the girls are sisters.
A grand jury issued a secret indictment last week, a news report stated. If convicted on all charges, he faces the possibility of life in prison without parole.
These matters cannot be more serious.
